BACKGROUND

VIABILITY

Woven leaf ' is a South Pacific craft of weaving palm leaves, which is widely used in Vanuatu's architecture. This traditional craft is not only strong and beautiful, but is also part of Vanuatu's cultural heritage, reflecting the local way of life and values.

Coconuts are an important part of the country's argricultural income and tourism industry. Many visitors are attracted by the beautiful coconut beaches and the opportunity to experience traditional coconut activities such as shelling, grating and weaving.

PRECEDENTS

AnyPLAY takes into account the multiple aspects of inclusive associations, including sustainability, environmental, cultural and educational values. Coconut and palm leaves are readily available and replaceable locally as sustainable and environmentally friendly materials. The play area has facilities such as sensory boards and climbing poles to help children with different types of disabilities improve their motor and sensory abilities. Encouraging children to participate in making and decorating helps to develop cultural pride and environmental awareness from an early age. The modular design of the model makes it highly replicable, countering potentially damaging instability in underdeveloped areas through strong regenerative capacity rather than its own high value high quality. It does not contain very complex and sophisticated functions per se, but instead gives the user a large operating space, which makes it very adaptable to the environment, quick to integrate into local life and even well adapted to localisation. If this programme is successful in Vanuatu, it has the potential to reach more developing countries and places where children's spaces have been destroyed by natural disasters or war. AnyPLAY promotes inclusivity and adaptability not only for people, but also for the environment.

Shigeru Ban Architects
The modular temporary post-disaster shelter system is assembled from several standardised components. It can be assembled and disassembled quickly by people without professional training. The fabric curtains act as movable partitions and give people the possibility to plan their personal space. Using recyclable materials that are quickly available, this is a cost-effective temporary response solution. Face natural disasters with a high degree of flexibility.

Khan Al Ahmar Primary Mixed School
ARCò architettura e cooperazione
A temporary school converted from tyres and mortar in the unsettling environment of war with minimal materials and cost. Given the tight timeframe and the fact that everything was done by hand by community members in a fortnight, the programme is extremely adaptable and operational to assert the right to education for children in marginalised environments.

INCLUSIVITY SUSTAINABILITY GROWTH & WELL-BEING CULTURE

CONCEPT

The ground is composed of grass, coconut coir matting and sand. The play area is divided into a grid shape in terms of texture and color. Visually impaired children can judge how much they move and where they are roughly based on the difference of foot feeling and sound. coconut matting is widely used as a flooring material, but its durability in rainy and windy weather is uncertain and may require special waterproofing for outdoor use.

If someone does not want to move components to change the existing layout, but still want to obtain temporary private space, they can use fiber fabric hanging on the bar as a partition wall.
